Turks and Caicos is one of the most popular Caribbean destinations, and any who have visited know why. While it is a popular spot for cruises to stop at, it is well worth a dedicated trip, as you will need several days to get a real taste of the island. Wildlife encounters, watersports, fresh seafood, and so much more await for tourists to partake in here. If you are planning a trip to these magnificent islands, we’ve got just the thing for you. Here is our pick for the best activities to do during a trip to Turks and Caicos.

Spend the Day at the Beach

Let’s get the obvious one out of the way first. While it may seem a bit basic for a Caribbean destination, there is nothing wrong with simply spending your time relaxing, swimming, sunbathing, and maybe boozing it up a bit at the amazing beaches here. Naturally, you’ll have plenty of spots to choose from. To experience the energy of big crowds and lots of restaurants, try Grace Bay which is referred to by some as the “world's best beach.” For a more secluded beach, head to Taylor Bay which boasts temperate, shallow waters in a secluded spot. For a convenient beach to visit for cruisers, try Governor’s Beach on Gran Turk Is, which is absolutely stunning and very close to the port. There is so much variety here, you are guaranteed to find something that fits your needs.

Snorkeling at Smith’s Reef

There are plenty of places for snorkeling in Turks and Caicos, but our pick is Smith’s Reef, for its diverse marine ecosystem and shallow waters. Because the waters here aren’t too deep, it makes the reef more accessible to novice snorkelers, so it is good for swimmers of all levels. Here you can expect to see sea turtles, stingrays, lobsters, and many schools of brightly colored tropical fish. Just be warned that the waters can be a little choppy and rocky areas can be dangerous. But if you follow the sandy pathway that leads into the water and avoid areas with a lot of rocks, you should have no trouble keeping yourself safe and getting to the surreal world that awaits beneath the waves.

Beachside Horseback Riding

Taking a ride on horseback is already a thrilling activity, but doing so on sandy beaches along the tranquil waters of the Caribbean elevates the experience to magical. Book an excursion with Provo Ponies to get a guided horseback tour along Long Bay on the southside of the island. Here you will wade through temperate waters on friendly horses that were rescued from Grand Turk, South Caicos, the Dominican Republic, and even from the States. These horses are known to be well mannered and love wading into the water, so you won’t feel like you are forcing the animal to do anything it doesn't want to. Remember to bring a water proof camera, because you are not going to want to miss your chance to snap some pics!

Sail Out to Iguana Island

Little Water Cay is an unassuming island that you can reach with a short boat trip from Providenciales' Leeward Marina. This is the home of Turks and Caicos’ remaining population of endangered rock iguanas, which is where it gets its nickname of Iguana Island. There are a few local companies that offer guided excursions to the island, but you can also get there by kayak or paddleboard, if you are feeling adventurous. While the iguanas are endangered, they live here in enough abundance that you are guaranteed to see some during your visit. If you venture into the waters around the island, you may also be able to spot sea turtles, baby sharks, and other exotic marine life.

Royal Turks & Caicos Golf Club

Relaxation takes on new meaning when you golf in the Caribbean, and the Royal Turks & Caicos Golf Club is the best place to do it. Here they provide a well-maintained, 18-hole course that is surrounded by the local flora and fauna, all blessed by the immaculate Caribbean sun. You’ll need to pack for a smart casual dress code, so avoid athletic wear and casual pants like jeans. Clubs can be rented, so you don’t need to worry about packing your own clubs for your vacation. The Club’s staff is also renowned for their attentiveness and friendly demeanor, so you can rest assured that nothing will get in the way of a relaxing day of putting.
