As we wrap up the 2022 ski season, there’s no better time for the adventurous traveler to fit in some last-minute skiing. The crowds have thinned, and while some of the snow may have melted, there’s still plenty of powder left for people to enjoy (not to mention champagne for those who prefer the après-ski). From the Canadian Rockies to the Tetons of Wyoming, here are the best ski resorts to visit this spring. Read on and get ready to hit the slopes

1. Aspen, Colorado

Aspen Snowmass Resort - There is still plenty of fresh powder at this famous resort town in Colorado.

March signifies the shift to the spring skiing season in Aspen, which continues into mid-April, and there’s no better place to enjoy your spring break — especially this year, as Aspen Snowmass Resort celebrates 75 years on the slopes. This haven in the Rocky Mountains is renowned for its après-ski scene, and what better way to recover from a champagne-soaked brunch at Cloud 9 than an afternoon full of sunshine? Plus, the mountain was covered in seven inches of fresh powder on the first day of April — an encouraging harbinger for conditions to come. Cheers!

2. Banff, Alberta, Canada

Banff Sunshine Village Ski Resort - The ski season never ends in the Great White North.

In case you missed the memo: Canada has officially reopened to visitors. Now that Canada is finally accessible to US travelers, what better way to celebrate than with a ski trip through the Canadian Rockies — and the resort mecca of Banff, to be precise? Banff Sunshine Village is open all the way up until May 23rd, and a Sunshine Ski Pass is the perfect ticket to springtime bliss at one of the most famous ski resorts in North America. It’s called Sunshine Village for a reason, so why not experience the slopes at their utmost sunniest? (A rarity in Canada, after all.)

3. Breckenridge, Colorado

Breckenridge Ski Resort - The perfect place for families.

Breckenridge Ski Resort is another glorious place to enjoy some champagne powder beneath the sun, as the resort operates through May 31st. The town is charming and the varied terrain makes skiing accessible for travelers with varying levels of ability — perfect for families, groups of friends, or even the solo traveler (as mentioned, the town is bustling and exciting enough without even hitting the slopes.) Check out the sublime dining scene during your visit, and prepare to fall in love with this gem of a mountain town in beautiful Colorado.

4. Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada

Lake Louise Ski Resort - This bucket-list destination is best enjoyed on the slopes.

If the much-photographed, picturesque Lake Louise has long been on your travel bucket list, now is the moment to visit. Lake Louise Ski Resort remains open until May 8th, giving plenty of skiers the opportunity to earn their turns in the Canadian mountains. And a stay at the iconic Fairmont Lake Louise (picture a mountainside castle in the wilderness) is a must-do splurge for visitors. Adventurous travelers can also road trip from Banff up to Lake Louise, and finally, to Mt. Norquay (but more on the latter destination later).

5. Big Sky, Montana

Big Sky Resort - Spring skiing is best in Big Sky Country.

The largest ski resort in the lower 48, Big Sky Resort is perfect for a last-minute spring break vacation in April. Expect the wildflowers to be in bloom, the days to be long, and the sky to be bluer than ever. We’ve already noted that Big Sky is a wonderfully restorative place to visit, and a trip to Lone Mountain Ranch is an ideal way to splurge in the wondrous Montana countryside. Plus, Montana has some of the best fly-fishing in the world (and certainly in the United States), so the outdoors-loving traveler can combine skiing the mountains with fishing its streams during their adventure. What’s not to love?

6. Mt. Norquay, Alberta, Canada

Mt. Norquay Resort - The perfect place to round out your Big 3 adventure in the Canadian Rockies.

Mt. Norquay Resort is the final resort represented on our list, rounding out Canada’s Big 3 alongside Banff and Lake Louise. All three ski mountains are nestled along the Continental Divide and offer breathtaking views and even more exciting ski terrain to explore. Although lesser known than the other two spots on our list, Mt. Norquay remains nevertheless a hidden gem, boasting spectacular terrain for skiers and snowboarders, as well as an extensive tubing park, too. The mountain features year-round adventure activities, too, which makes it the perfect destination for the ultimate adventure trip in the Canadian Rockies. While the last ski day is in mid-April, the resort has been known to open up for bonus days if the conditions permit. May the force (snowfall) be ever with you. Happy travels!
